About the club
No salt required.
Bass Lake Surf Club started the way most good things on a lake do — a handful of people, one boat, and a stubborn belief that you do not need an ocean to surf.
The wave here is not handed to you. It gets built — by the right boat, the right ballast, and a driver who knows the line. When it is right, it runs clean and long and does not close out. That is the whole appeal: a wave you can ride until your legs give out, on water that is flat calm at six in the morning.
The club is not a building and there is no list to get on. It is a mark you wear if you are the kind of person who is first on the water, who takes a turn driving, and who leaves the launch cleaner than they found it.
The clothing came second. We wanted something we would actually wear off the water — a soft tee that survives the season, a hoodie warm enough for the drive home, a beanie for the mornings that have no business being that cold. Everything is printed in small runs rather than stacked in a warehouse, so nothing goes to landfill because we guessed wrong about how many mediums to order.
